Since I found out I was pregnant with Chloe, I've been super focused on finishing the girls' room. I'm so close I can taste it, but time is even more restricted now. And so are my activities. I'm still on maternity leave so I'm supposed to be resting and healing.
Chloe is almost 4 weeks old, and the main pieces of the shelves and bench are done. I still have to prime, paint, and upholster the bench. I also have to build out the drawers for the bench. I have no idea how long that will take.
So far, building my first set of shelves and a window seat has taken a really long time. I started on these before I got pregnant.
So here's what's happened in the girls' room so far.
The color scheme is pink/black/white. This is my only girly girl room and it's been so fun! It took me 3 years to find fabric I liked, but find it I did. I'm getting ahead of myself.
The first thing we did, was wallpaper and paint the room. There was a chair rail already there, so I just left it and wallpapered the top and painted the bottom. There was wallpaper on top already so I didn't even have to prep the walls, just had to take off the old paper and sand lightly.

The next step was to get rid of the old (and exceptionally gross) pink carpet, but with no budget for flooring, we had nothing to replace it. Enter, porch and floor paint. I laid the grid with a chalk line and hand painted the squares so I wouldn't have to tape off the whole grid. I went over it with 3 layers of polyurethane. And yes, I painted the plywood subfloor. (Wait til we get to the boy's rooms!)
So that's it for now. Stay tuned for a fabulous dresser makeover and all the lovely fabrics, AND updates on the shelving and bench. As of right now, January 25, 2011 - this is what the room looks like. Notice the old gate headboard is gone (it's for sale if anyone wants it) and the new fabric is on the bed AND the shade is FINALLY up. That took forever for something so simple. I'll post more on that later. Also, the fan chandelier was a great find! (I put a close up of it below).
That's it for now! More updates as events warrant!!
